Top Ten Tuesday is a meme started by The Broke and the Bookish. This week: Top 10 Favorite Classics.
Now, I don’t read a lot of classics anymore. I did for a while – I was making a point to read through the suggested Advanced Placement texts because I wanted to teach AP Literature and Composition (there were rumors that a position was opening up at the high school in the district where I teach, and I briefly considered putting in for it).
Without further ado, here are my top 10 favorite classics.
- Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
- “Sonny’s Blues” by James Baldwin
- “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
- “Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid
- 1984 by George Orwell
- Lord of the Flies by William Golding
- Dracula by Bram Stoker
- Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
- Native Son by Richard Wright
- Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
