Top 10 Tuesday: Favorite Classics

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme started by The Broke and the Bookish. This week: Top 10 Favorite Classics.

Now, I don’t read a lot of classics anymore. I did for a while – I was making a point to read through the suggested Advanced Placement texts because I wanted to teach AP Literature and Composition (there were rumors that a position was opening up at the high school in the district where I teach, and I briefly considered putting in for it).

Without further ado, here are my top 10 favorite classics.

  1. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
  2. Sonny’s Blues” by James Baldwin
  3. A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
  4. Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid
  5. 1984 by George Orwell
  6. Lord of the Flies by William Golding
  7. Dracula by Bram Stoker
  8. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
  9. Native Son by Richard Wright
  10. Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
