Sometimes it’s nice to have someone else tell you what to talk about, so today I’m linking up with Coffee Addicted Writer to answer the Book Blogger Hop question. This week’s question:
When you settle in for the night with a good book, do you read until you can’t stay awake or simply have a nightly page goal?
Honestly, whether I stay up and read, or put a book down for the night depends heavily on what I’ve got going on the next day.
I’m a teacher. Middle school. And if I’m not bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, my 13 year olds will eat me alive. I also live an hour away from my school, which makes for very early mornings.
If it’s the weekend? I’m going to read as much as I can. Last night I stayed up to finish A Torch Against the Night, which I wrote a review for yesterday. I didn’t want to put it down.
In terms of page goals, I prefer to stop reading at the end of a chapter rather than after a certain number of pages. This way, it feels more like there’s closure. Though, to be fair, it does suck when a chapter ends on a cliff hanger.
What about you? Nightly page goal? Read ’til the candle goes out?
When I taught, there was no way I could stay up. I can’t stay up now either as a retired teacher. 🙂
I agree about finishing a chapter. I like that too.
I do judge a book by how long it will take me to read by “trying” to do 100 pages a night or day, but that always doesn’t work. It definitely doesn’t work at night…I fall asleep before I make my goal. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by my blog, Eli. You have a nice blog.
Great to see you on the Blog Hop – Welcome.

Hello….I see you followed me on Silver’s Reviews Mini….thank you, but that really isn’t my active blog. More happens at my blogspot blog if you want to stop there. 🙂
Thanks for the follow. The link to my blogspot blog is below. Hope you can visit.
Ah, okay. I’ve added your blogspot blog to my reader. 🙂 Thanks for the follow as well.
Yeah, for me it’s the early wake ups for work and my needing to be clear headed that keep me from reading long into the night most nights too. 🙂
Yeah I have to get my shut eye too, or I get grumpy. I usually read before going to bed, but no set goal. I agree about the cliff hanger chapter endings.
Aren’t they the worst? Thanks for stopping by!
OMG!! You teach middle school? Yup, you sure DO have to be as alert as possible in the mornings! I’m a teacher, as well, but I teach adults, in the Adult Ed. program at a high school here in Miami. As you know from my own BBH post, I go in at 3:30 PM, and leave at 9:30 PM (well, after I’ve put everything away and signed out, it’s more like 9:45 PM). I teach ESOL, and my students, being adults, are very appreciative. (Although, from time to time, I’ve had trouble from younger students. You have to be at least 16 to register in the adult program, so I’ve had a few troublemakers here and there. For the most part, though, I’ve been able to handle these students with no hassles.)
I’m going to check out “A Torch Against the Night” on Goodreads. I’ll also read your review. 🙂
I totally agree with you about finishing a chapter for the night. And yes, sometimes chapters do end on cliffhangers. That’s exactly what happened to me last night, with the book I’m currently reading. So I ended up reading a bit more. Lol.
Hope you have a WONDERFUL week ahead with your students! Thanks so much for visiting my blog and commenting on my own BBH post!! 🙂
I always read ten chapters in a book for my page goal and I also do get frustrated when the finish chapter is left in a cliffhanger. I have always have to force myself to stop reading and not continue reading after I finish the 10th chapter! Thank you for stopping by my blog hop
