I am terrible at taking recommendations from people personally, but great at taking them from lists on the internet or the Bookish podcasts I listen to. So here are 10 books I read on recommendation.

The Martian by Andy Weir. Book Riot. Enough said. So many of the books I read come from their recommendations.

Lizard Radio by Pat Schmatz. This one was an ad on one of the Book Riot podcasts. So glad I read it. There aren’t many books about genderqueer characters.

Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler. This one was recommended to me by my wife, whose first love is Octavia Butler.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians (series) by Rick Riordan. This was the first recommendation I remember taking from someone. My cousin Sam, to be exact, and he was in 5th of 6th grade at the time (he’s a college freshman now).

Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. This is another one I heard about in Book Riot. I don’t read many books qualified as fiction (as opposed to YA fiction). I enjoyed this post-apocalyptic jaunt as much as I did The Night Circus.

The Good House by Tananarive Due. This is another recommendation from my wife. What sold me: my favorite narrator, Robin Miles, read the audiobook.

Changers Book One: Drew by Allison Glock-Cooper and T Cooper as recommended by my friend Dawn. It has an interesting premise – every year of high school, changers change into someone different. It addresses gender, sexuality, and race in an interesting way.

Daytripper by Fabio Mood and Gabriel Ba. Another Tracie recommendation – beautiful illustrations. Seriously. I cried, it was so beautiful.

Shatter Me (series) by Tahreh Mafi. I’ll call this an Allyn recommendation because she sent me the book in the mail. I love this series so much and I don’t know why. And if you’re looking for another good book tuber and you haven’t watched her yet, you need to.

Skullduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy. I’m going to call this one a recommendation from Emma, one of my YouTube mates. This is one of the more hilarious books I’ve read, and the audiobook narrator does some amazing character voices. I also wrote a Sticky Note Review for this on.

The Crossover by Kwame Alexander. Not long after it came out, a bunch of people on a hashtag I follow, #bookaday, were raving about it. Naturally, if everyone on #bookaday was reading it, I had to, too. So good that I recommend it to all my reluctant readers and sometimes read it aloud in class.
