The basic premise: North America as we know it has destroyed itself and no longer exists. What does exist is a country called Panem. Panem consists of the Capitol and 12 districts. The Capitol controls those 12 districts, and in order to keep control of the districts every year each district must send a girl and a boy between the ages of 12 and 17 to the Capitol to participate in the Hunger Games. In the Hunger Games, the 24 kids are placed in an arena and are expected to fight to the death.
