As much as I loved A-M McLemore’s new offering, a modernized retelling of Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Snow Queen,” one would think I would have written this post sooner.
Alas, I didn’t. And here we are.
To be honest, I’d forgotten that I’d preordered their book at all — I’d been so wrapped up in another book project that I’d completely missed release day. So naturally, I had to tweet about it as soon as I got the email.
And then I promptly geeked out when I got a response. Because that’s the kind of book nerd I am.
The Six Word Summary is the tl;dr of book summaries. the Six Word Summary for The Mirror Season reads:
Teens experience sexual trauma and heal.
And the sticky note says:
All I could say when I finished The Mirror Season was “stunning.” A-M tackles sexual assault through a magical realism-infused loose retelling of Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Snow Queen.” Ciela, the protagonist, and Lock, who turns out to be a new student at Ciela’s school, are both sexually assaulted at the same party.
