It’s So Hard to Abandon Books

What was the last book you started to read but couldn’t finish?

I was scrolling through some of the media I have saved here in WordPress, and I came across the Book Blogger Hop thumbnail from forever ago. I haven’t done one of these in a minute and I’m avoiding some of the housework things I should be doing, so I went to see what Billy had in store for us this week.

I have a hard time abandoning books. I think it’s hold over from when I was doing more reading for my students than I was reading for myself.

Now I try really hard to remember that it’s not disrespectful to put down a book. I know someone worked incredibly hard to put the words on the page and as a life-long reader, I have respect for the work that goes into the process of writing. I also have to remind myself that I can make choices as a reader, and one of those choices is to not finish something I’ve started.

So my answer to the question is Miss You, Love You, Hate You, Bye by Abby Sher.

I’m reading a lot of books outside my comfort zone this year and I tried with this one, but it didn’t speak to me in the way that I needed to be able to get through it.

What I am happy about, though, is that I’m in a position to put this book in the hands of an adolescent reader who will love it. I’m sure.
