As I mentioned on in my bookish Instastory, I’ve taken to doodling while reading. The City We Became is full of amazing description that lends itself to visualization (because I’m still a reading teacher at heart).
We listened to Chapter One a few times on audio before we decided that it’s hard to follow as a bedtime story. I’ve since stopped listening to the audio, even though it’s read by Casa Hit-Ham fav, Robin Miles, and have taken to reading it.
I cannot even tell you. Seriously. I don’t have words. All I know is that I can’t believe I’ve never read anything by N. K. Jemisin before and I can’t wait to read more. I should stop typing and do that.
Without further ado, here’s the fight scene from chapter one.
