The Other Half of Happy | Sticky Note Reviews

I mentioned the other day that I was reading The Other Half of Happy by Rebecca Balcárcel, that I’d met her by chance in November, and that I had a few other things to read before I got to this one. I’m mad at myself for taking so long.

And the Sticky Note Says…

The Other Half of Happy is a fabulous MG (middle grade) debut about finding oneself between two cultures. Quijana’s truly a 12-year-old, down to attitude and issues with parents. Qui’s story and struggle reminds me of conversations about colorism and language in my former classroom in the Borderland. It’s definitely worth adding to classroom and school libraries.

This also marks the first Sticky Note Review in which I put a piece of art on the slide before the review, and it’s square. The latter I have a template for. The former, well, we’ll see how long that lasts.
