You Don’t Know Everything, Jilly P | Sticky Note Reviews

I thought I needed an audiobook to get me to and from work, so I picked up You Don’t Know Everything, Jilly P by Alex Gino. It was quick and interesting. Here’s the review that I reference in the video. Hear my Sticky Note Review below.

I will say that I found the story to be a little heavy handed, but when I listened to the author’s note and found out that was the intent (and that their audience is white hearing readers) I kind of understood why they did what they did.

I don’t know how I feel about the fact that two black kids had to die to make a point, however. I mean, it was clearly articulated – the privilege some have to be able to see it, comment about the injustice of it, and then turn it off.

I love that Jilly’s process isn’t perfect, and that Derek calls her on the fact that she WILL continue to make mistakes on her path to awakening. If we learn nothing else from Jilly, we should definitely learn that.
