If You Come Softly by Jacqueline Woodson is one I read many years ago, back when I’d just started teaching. It’s a Romeo & Juliet retelling in alternating perspectives that is just fabulous.
I picked it up again because it’s the first read for Life’s Library Book Club. Woodson is one of my favorite authors and I jumped at the chance to be able to discuss this particular work with other people.
As I reread, I’ll share some of my thoughts with you below. They’ll be in chronological order, and I’ll put chapters and spoiler warnings if necessary.

Do you ever pay attention to the tense a narrative is written in? What are your thoughts about it?
Blackness front and center
What stories make you feel like you’re at home?
Fish Out of Water Stories
Thoughts forthcoming.
I love rereading books, I always seem to pick up on things that I didn’t before. I also enjoy seeing how much my opinions change about the book as well.

I get why some people don’t reread books, but I can’t see not rereading books.
