There was no doubt in my mind that I was going to pick up Sunny by Jason Reynolds when it came out.

None.

Whatsoever.

If you haven’t read anything written by Jason Reynolds yet, I strongly recommend that you do. Whatever your feelings about YA or MG books, this guy is still a master.

#bookaday Sunny (Track #3) by Jason Reynolds. #SNRtbs Once again, Jason Reynolds shows that he is a master of voice. Sunny’s voice was so distinct I could see him bouncing off the walls. While this epistolary novel is a departure from the narrative structure of previous stories, it adds to readers’ ability to visualize Sunny and the compact nature of his world. It also lent itself well to creating this sense of isolation that Sunny feels. This makes both the interactions with his father and the other members of The Defenders at the end that much more powerful.
