With my school’s book of the month program, we’re trying to be more inclusive of our students who would prefer to read in Spanish. Unfortunately, all of the books we selected in English don’t have Spanish translations.
We did find The Julian Chapter from R. J. Palacio’s Wonder in Spanish, and are excited to be able to offer that as one in a growing list of commonplace texts for our student body.
#Bookaday The Julian Chapter by R. J. Palacio. I read Wonder years ago and remember loving it. The Julian Chapter tells Julian's side of the story, explaining why he was so mean to Auggie. Julian frustrated me in the same way that my students who routinely pick on people frustrate me — unable to understand that their behaviors are harmful to other people. This made it challenging for me to empathize with Julian. It was even more challenging case his parents consigned his behavior, and demonizes a kid who can't help but be who he is. Julian's redemption was definitely satisfying.
