This week’s Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by the lovely readers over at The Broke and the Bookish) is variations on a Read in One Sitting theme. I took it to mean top ten books I wish I could have read in one sitting. These are all books I’ve read in 2016 and 2017.
So here’s my Top Ten Tuesday in 60 seconds. Scroll all the way down for just the list.
10. Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson
9. My Name is Leon by Kit de Waal — I was lucky enough to get this on both audio and ebook, so I could go back and forth. The storytelling was just amazing. (My Review)
8. Bluescreen (Mirador #1) by Dan Wells (My Review)
7. Listen Slowly by Thanhha Lai (My Review)
6. Show and Prove by Sophia Quintero (My Review)
4. Citizen: An American Lyric by Claudia Rankin
3. Scythe by Neal Shusterman — I’m a huge Shusterman fan, and while I couldn’t get T to read Unwind, I did get her to read this one, and she loved it. Not only do I wish I could have read it in one sitting, I wish there was an audiobook for it (if you’ve seen one, please let me know). (My Review)
2. All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely (My Review)
1. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas — I read this over the course of several days, binging the ending while my student teacher was teaching. Then I had to sit in stunned silence for a moment. Maybe it’s a good thing I didn’t do this one in one sitting. (My Review)
Scythe was so good! I didn’t read it in a day, but I love anything by Neal Shusterman.
I can’t wait to read The Hate U Give.

I hope you enjoy it when you get to it. I got to have lunch with Shusterman back in 2009, and I’ve been a huge fan ever since. Thanks for stopping by, and for the follow!

Wow! Lunch with Shusterman. That’s amazing. I’d love to pick his brain and see where he gets these ideas.

He’s just a master storyteller. He told a story about how he got started – and it was telling stories to campers to get them to settle down. I think one of those stories eventually became The Eyes of Kid Midas.

I have to agree with you (#10) that sometimes, even though a book is great, it’s best digested over several days

The Hate U Give was great but I needed a couple of days for that one!

Great list! I’m reading The Hate U Give right now and I’ve been cursing my deadlines at work all week because they’re really getting in the way of my reading time. I can’t wait until my day off so I can fully devote myself to it.

This is a great spin on this topic. There are SO many books that I wish I could have just sat down and sped through. #slowreaderproblems

I just added Show and Prove to my TBR. I haven’t heard of it until now. I’m really intrigued by the emergence of hip hop after binge-watching The Get Down, so will be checking this one out.

I enjoyed it very much. It’s one that I eventually want to buy because I think my students will like it.

Allegedly, Bluescreen, and Scythe are all on my TBR so I’m glad to see you liked them. I (somewhat surprisingly) haven’t heard much about the latter two. I’m reading THUG right now and really enjoying it, although I’ve had to set it aside because I have a review spot on a blog tour on Monday and need to read the book, haha. Hopefully I’ll be able to get back to THUG soon!
