Would you take a book with you when you go to your family’s Thanksgiving gathering/dinner?

So my answer is yes, but.

Trace and I are spending Thanksgiving at a friend’s. We’re not going home for a number of reasons, one of which is the proposal for my dissertation is due in my advisor’s inbox the Friday after. Now, we have lunch or dinner with this group of people almost every week. And almost every week, I have a book in my bag, or an audiobook on my phone.  It has nothing to do with the people, who I love and enjoy very much, and everything to do with the fact that I take a book with me everywhere. No exceptions.

I even take a book with me when I go to the grocery store (which is one of my weekly household chores).

It’s like walking around with a comfort object all the time.

Would you take a book with you to Thanksgiving? (And if you don’t live in the US, would you take a book with you to a large family gathering?)
