I want to take a moment to celebrate one of the most popular books among my students right now. That book is The Crossover by Kwame Alexander, last year’s Newberry Medal winner.
I think one of the things that draws my students to this book is the limited text on the page. It’s a novel in verse. Once they get past that, between basketball, hip hop, and the relationship between two twin brothers who are about their age, they’re completely hooked.
Thank you, Kwame Alexander, for helping me reach some of my students. I am excited by their excitement. (I also have one who is borrowing my borrowed copy of Booked, which is also fantastic.)
Really, all I wanted to do with this post was celebrate some of the reading that is happening in my classroom.
