Overheard in the Library

The Fault in Our Stars
The Fault in Our Stars

My best friend is the librarian.

That makes sense for the reading teacher, right?

So I was in the library earlier today when a student came in to pick up The Fault in Our Stars, which she had on hold. One of the girls who was with her said, “Oh! They have that book?”

To which our librarian responded, “Not anymore. She just checked it out.”

The girl’s friend looks at our librarian for a second, looks at the book, then says to her friend, “I’m going to jump you.”

I had to stifle a laugh. The conversation I had with the librarian and the other teacher I was with afterward was something along the lines of: Well, that’s a good reason to jump someone.

It turns out there’s a long waiting list for The Fault in Our Stars, which is exciting. What we anticipate will happen is the girl who wanted it will borrow it from the girl who checked it out, thereby bypassing the hold list. While that stinks for the other kids who are waiting for it, it’s amazing to see them excited about a story.
