Penelope Lumley isn’t your ordinary nanny. Start with the fact that she’s only fifteen years old. Then add to that the fact that she is unnaturally in love with the school that she just left. And then add to those that the three children she’s been hired to look after have been (literally) raised by wolves. They bark, and everything. But that doesn’t stop Penelope from trying to civilize them. Hilarity ensues, especiallly since the Incorrigable children love chasing squirrels as much as Penelope loves her school. I didn’t notice, until I started writing this post, that Jon Klassen illustrated the paper edition of this book. Now I feel like, as a reader, I missed something. Not that the story wasn’t engaging without the pictures, but it’s always interesting to me how illustrations enhance the story. And after reading the hat books by Klassen, I’m interested to see what he did with this one. I may have to go pick it up.
