Book Preview: Playground

PlaygroundSometimes reading snobs (I include myself in this category) like to think that the writing should be left to the writers. When famous people try their hand at young adult literature, especially if we assume it’s because they think it’s an easy way to make more money, we also assume it’s going to be poorly written and constructed. Such isn’t the case with Playground. To those of you who would say that the story is predictable and not as good because of it, I challenge you to find a kid for whom this is a reality. I have one. He was in my class Spring 2012. And I was thinking of him the entire time I was reading this novel, wishing I had the opportunity to give it to him. If everyone deserves to see their stories told, the predictable stories deserve to be told, too.
