I’ve been putting off writing about Beauty Queens, and I’m not sure why. Libba Bray delivered a fabulous satire, here, that reminds me vaguely of Lord of the Flies by William Golding, though significanly more entertaining. I read the novel with this snarky, sarcastic tone in my head, and it was probably the funniest book I read in the summer of 2011.
Though I find footnotes distracting, they were–and this book is–absolutely hilarious. I’ll admit that since Going Bovine (anyone who knows me knows I’m a sucker for Printz award winning books) and A Great and Terrible Beauty, I’ve had an author crush on Libba Bray. Beauty Queens didn’t disappoint.
